Chris Kevil, Ph.D. - LSU Health Sciences Center Shreveport

Vice Chancellor for Research Christopher G. Kevil PhD, assumed leadership for research development and management of the LSU Health Sciences Center at Shreveport in December 2016.  Dr. Kevil has established an internationally recognized cardiovascular research program through federally funded grant awards and leadership as the Director for the Center of Cardiovascular Diseases and Sciences at LSU Health Shreveport.

Dr. Kevil earned his graduate research degree from LSU Health Shreveport in Molecular and Cellular Physiology followed by a fellowship in Pathobiology and Functional Genomics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Returning to LSU Health Shreveport in the Department of Pathology, he quickly established cutting edge research programs regarding peripheral vascular disease leading to numerous federal, AHA, and ADA grant awards along with new discoveries resulting in many patents. New technologies discovered in the Kevil Lab also lead to development of two startup companies, Theravasc, Inc. located in Cleveland, OH and Innolyzer, LLC located in Shreveport, LA.

 

Dr. Kevil is a member of the American Physiological Society and a Fellow of the Cardiovascular Section, a Fellow for the Society for Redox Biology and Medicine, a member of the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association, is a Distinguished Eagle Scout and the recipient of numerous research and teaching awards. Dr. Kevil serves on numerous editorial boards including the American Journal of Physiology, Cardiovascular Research journal Free Radical Biology and Medicine journal, Nitric Oxide journal, and Frontiers in Oxidant Physiology journal.  He also serves as Editor in Chief for the Redox Biology journal and Associated Editor for the American Journal of Pathology.  Dr. Kevil also performs expert research peer review for numerous groups including the National Institutes of Health, American Heart Association, and the American Diabetes Association.

 

Dr. Kevil and his wife, Dr. Glenda Johnson, reside in Shreveport and have two children Benjamin and Claire Kevil.
